Hi all,

I've been looking at a 2010 plate 207 Gti but I am mindful of the issues surrounding the 1.6 THP regarding timing chains (mainly).

Would those issues have been sorted by Peugeot at production with as late a model as this one or were they still there ?

I like everything about the car on paper and when viewing it but don't want to end up with a car that's going to cost in repairs.

Any help or advice/experience would be very helpful.

Thanks for looking......

hi and welcome

the gti is a great car, even standard can put a smile on ur face or heavily modified few people around the UK and rest of the world running some big bhp!

regarding the timing, unfortunately its always gonna be an issue if car isn't looked after properly in terms of u always need keep the oil to the max and car is warmed up before u boot it! the timing isn't locked and is only done by a tensioner on the inlet side so will always be liable to slip, but its a quicker job to do now than was back when car came out.

depends on mileage of the car what to look out for, generally issues can be high pressure fuel pump, clogged inlet valves and some dodgy sensors.

repairs for HPFP are not a lot on labour, and BMW supply same part at half the Peugeot price so lots people use that.

timing wise, theres only really the proper mechanic way of checking the timing and the chain, but on cold start up if it rattles really bad walk away!
