I've noticed my air conditioning is very intermittent.

When I'm driving it tends to stay on (assuming I want it on)

However it seems to cut in and off a lot. Off quite a lot!

I can hear the compressor kicking in, it gets cold, then compressor goes off and warmer air comes in. Now it seems to stay off for say 2 mins, then back on fit about 30 seconds and so on. This is on coldest setting.

Wondered what may be causing this.

Checked gas which seems ok

hmmm....tis a wierd one.

seems as though it thinks its at temp and just needs to intermittently blow cold air. i would start looking to see if the compressor has a thermostat.

It's annoying. As it cuts out more at standstill. Ie in traffic when you want some aircon as its hot, or when it's got misted due to rain etc.

i know your pain mate, could be a case of taking the car to an aircon specialist or even dealer to see what they say.

Just an update.
Noticed today whilst parked with air con on, I heard a bit of belt slip.

Wondering if the belt needs tightening? Could that be a reason for the air con cutting out??

Just popped out to car, turned it on, put air con on, it was cold, compressor was on, looked at rad fan and it wasn't on, few mins later the compressor went off, came on again but no fan still, then heard a bit of belt squeal them compressor off again. No fan movement.

I think fan was on the other day when it was warm outside however.

Looking around I'm guessing it's a problem with the rad fans that's possibly causing my issue. Hence the air commision ok while driving as the cooling on the rad is adequate to cool the elements etc.

Anyone know which fuses I should check? And where the fan relays are. I can't see them.
