Has anyone changed the front/rear interior bulbs to brighter ones that still fade?
I would expect the dimming to be realized by PWM (pulse width modulation) ie switching power fully on/off very rapidly, slowly increasing the off-time and decreasing the on-time to dim the bulb - so pretty much any regular bulb (without internal driver circuitry), LED or not, should be able to dim.
The problem dimming LED bulbs on the mains usually comes from the switch-mode driver in the bulb that takes the 230V and chops it into whatever voltage is required by the LEDs. If you dim the supply, the internal driver will just 'work harder', still trying to run the LED at full brightness, until the feed is low enough that it simply no longer can...

I've replaced the number plate, glove box, and boot lights with LED ones. However the foot well leds were always too bright so I reverted back to the standard bulbs and I'm much happier with them.

..you can get lower wattage LEDs with less chips...and in colour too if you fancy them...:thumb:

NB: The links below may now be out of date but you can easily find the new listings by doing a search by description:

Footwells:

..or if they are to bright when dimmed at night go for the 5-SMD version:

NB: If you fancy a change of colour these are also available in Blue, Red, Green, Amber. I've tested the 9X in Blue and it's perfect so I suggest you use the 9X if you go for the coloured version.

I had these 9X Blue in my 2008 as they looked good against the blue dial surrounds. (See post #7 below).

I've left the 9X Blue fitted as they look rather nice. I'll test the 5X Pure White later when they arrive.

UPDATE: 5X Pure White are excellent for the footwells. Good illumination when the door is opened and dim down nicely when driving with the lights on.
