Oh great. Now my 1.6HDi is chugging from the top of the engine, sounds like one injector seal has failed.

I changed the oil and filter at the weekend but the dipstick would not read the level, so I think I over-filled the thing, then I drained around a litre out again.
Still nothing showing on dipstick, is this a sign that the oil pickup is clogged solid?
Question is would this cause an injector seal to blow or is it coincidence?

Anyone want to buy this thing? It's driving me nuts

yeah, it's the naff plastic dip. I went out just now and checked again and maybe there is a 'drip' on the end of the dipstick, despite around 4 litres going in. The dipstick is complete, right down the the arrow head.

I thought when oil goes in it flows over the camgear, down the block and into the sump, so if oil is not getting into the sump, I have a huuuuge problem!

(does anyone know if I need any specialist tools to replace injector seals, is it a hard job?)

The only time I've needed a tool to get them out I used a long pick type thing and it came out nicely. Most of the time I've been fortunate enough to find them sticking to the injector nozzles.

If you're able to drop a litre of oil, then it must be getting through to the sump?

You could always open the drain plug, and pour oil straight through and see if it flows relatively normally.

Oil gets back to the sump no problem there are many return ports all over the engine

The seal blowing is NOTHING to do with oil if its chuffing its the BOTTOM seal thats blowing IE the copper washer this seals the compression in the cylinder and never touches the oil.

The top OIL seal just stops oil leaking out around the injector due to peugeots silly design

No because your injector is already loose if its leaking !

What i do is loosen the clamp bolt a little and run the engine till injector pops out you will know when its out as the smoke gets worse and the engine may stop once loose you then remove the wiring feed pipe and return it will then just lift out.

I just did the 1 on mine, but kept the 3 others from the packet of washers just in case. Not a big job to do if the others do go. I kept the car another 2 years and no further issues.

Copper seal is main issue to be honest you may get away with just removing cleaning and refitting same seal i reuse them sometimes once fitted and not leaking run for a while then retighten they are usually fine after that
