Hi guys,
I bought a 308 HDI 110 Sport today and am picking the car up on Friday. I haven't seen the car other than on the dealer's website. Any watchouts whn I go to pick the car up?
And what are the general issues with those 308's? Are you happy with the ones you drive?

Greetings. i have an HDi110 sport myself.

No major recurring problems for the 308. They're proving thus far to be possibly the sturdiest car pug havesold in 2 decades.

I love mine, a fantastic machine.

Unless it is brand spanking new, I'd be reluctant to buy a car I'd not inspected and driven myself, no matter how few miles it might have.

The very same car retails in my area for £2000-3000 more, so it was a no brainer for me. The dealer did offer the money back if I don't like the car though :)

I'd have still taken a day out to test drive it, and have the AA/RAC inspect it. What's a day compared to the headaches you can get if it goes wrong?

PS - remember to HPI it and check the previous keeper - a large-O batch of 308s has just been dumped on the used market by a large leasing and car hire firm trading under several diferent legitimate names. If it isn't a private keeper, then slap the firms name into google to be sure. These cars are being knocked out for £2000-£3000 cheaper than the norm...

You got me worried now :(
I did do an HPI check and it was all green. One owner, but doesn't say who it was. I assume it will be an ex-fleet or something like that - who else buys a car for £18K to sell it for £9K a year later? But there are hundreds of the 08/58 cars available through Peugeot network.
Why is it an issue if it was an ex leasing/car hire owner?
Also, Peugeot offer a 30-day fault exchange policy so if I discover something, i can always return it, can't I?

one of my 307`s came over from England ex-lease car ,every tom dick and harry probably drove it , that was 40,000 miles ago ,
tom and harry are ok but all you need is one dick and that can also be the one owner car from new , enjoy your car, you`ll never know how it was driven before you and if you don`t want it ,give it to me i`ll take sloppy seconds, thirds, fourths or fiftys.

They're able to sell them so cheap because they buy them several hundred at a time and get £5 or £6k discount per car when buying at those volumes.

Simply ask the seller who the previous registered keeper was, then google the name - if they won't tell you, don't touch it.

Lease firms generally aren't a problem. Most of these will have been leased to firms as company cars and will generally have had only one driver. If the car is less than 2 years old it will also have probably been serviced properly as well.

Hire cars are a different story and will have been ragged mercillessly by dozens of different drivers. Follwing a recent civil court ruling, the seller has a duty to inform you if this was the case at it massively affects the resale value and potential longevity of the vehicle. If the name comes back as hire firm as opposed to a lease firm then don't touch it, no matter how cheap it is. If they won't tell you and this turns out to be the case, they've broken da law.


National also trade as Vanguard, Budget are connected with a firm called Spotform, Enterprise are also known as Enterprise Holdings (a little more obvious than some), Avis as R.E.G, Budget as BISL Ltd etc, so it isn't immediately apparent what you're looking at til you slap it in da google, and you can bet your bippy the V5 will be under the less well known name for obvious resale reasons.

You wouldn't buy a used car a year old with 100 previous keepers, and in terms of wear, tear, and resale value that's exactly what you end up doing if you buy an ex hire car.

Sure, the surgeons can stitch me up too, but it's surely better to not get it between the shoulder blades in the first place. It is so easy to check beforehand (just ask for the name of the previous RO) that there really is no excuse for not checking it out. This is a big financial investment, and it's not as if there is a shortage of used 308s (and new ones can be discounted heavily too) so there's no excuse to risk it. Ask, ask and ask until they tell you, and if it comes back as a hire firm then tell them to sod orf and find another.

Previous keeper was Avis, they were very open about it. Said all of the 1-year old cars are ex-rental. Car was spotless and I bought it. Loving it so far.

Personally I'd have run a mile, but if you're happy, enjoying it, and intend keeping it long enough that the reduced resale value won't be a factor, then go for it.
