How quiet is your engine

My wife went over to Peterborough to see an old friend and couldn't lock the car.

She tried several times but it wouldn't lock......touched the door handle...used the fob door lock button....then she realised she hadn't switched off the engine..."Well it's so quiet" she said and I completely forgot that I had to press the button to stop the engine...

I must say that I've been amazed at just how quiet and smooth this little 1.2L 3 cylinder engine is and at the same time having enough poke when I need it.

Quite an achievement by the Peugeot technicians and engineers. :thumb:

Daughter has that engine in her 2008, but there seems to be less soundproofing so it's not that quiet. Must say my 308 SW with the 1.6 blue HDi is the quietest diesel I have ever had.
Yes Brian, 1.6 diesel is quite quiet. But, seems to Peugeot mounted much less soundproofing materials then before. Only 2.8 kg on the firewall. However, engine is not so noticeable, but road and rolling noise can be annoying. Especially with stock Efficientgrip tyres - they are surprisingly loud.

I find the road noise is also extremely quiet in my Allure.

Maybe the amount of insulation varies depending on specification?
Allan, you might be right. Maybe amount of soundproofing materials depends of trim? Service Box contain such a informations.
However, I already found some reviews that include road noise as issue. Engine bay is insulated well, I think.
Having recently had a trip to France, the road noise was immediately noticeable when I got back to Britain. French Autoroutes have that quiet surface, maybe one day the UK will catch up.
