This should be a simple matter of calling your local motor factors for a quote. No need to go for overkill, a decent battery will give you years of trouble free starting as long as it is rated to the car.
The size of a battery (cold cranking amps) is determined by the demands of the starter motor. That's why diesels need a bigger battery than equivalent petrol model.

Overcharging protection is the regulator / diode pack in the alternator. If you expect to charge the battery using a charger then don't go for the cheapest charger on the supermarket shelf. It pays to spend a bit extra on a decent charger as they are kinder to the battery and will most likely last a whole lot longer.
