Hi there, I seem to be losing coolant, but with no leaks?
The water in the expansion tank looks a little dirty, suggesting oil contamination, any idea where this could come from ?

I have to top up the coolant level every couple of days, and on the odd occasion, the expansion cap has blew off under pressure?

I have the 90bhp Rapier 2.0

Thanks

oil in water normally comes out like a mayo effect

could be the original coolant has just gone a manky colour over the years, my car has red coolant as normal

have you checked all the hoses to the radiator. make sure all bleed screws are tight (there blue ones on the thermostat)

Hi, thanks for the reply...

There is no mayo in the system, or on the cap. But the water does look 'dirty'. ??

Diesels DO NOT mix oil and water generally when head gasket fails all your other symptoms though do sound like head gasket

The oil you are seeing is actually burnt diesel/carbon mixing with the coolant your coolant is being burnt by the engine and the pressure is building up in the coolant circuit blowing your cap off

Classic diesel head gasket symptoms im afraid although could be crack in head too either way head off job
