My on-going saga with a non starting car. Tried a ‘leak off’ test today with the injectors. On turning the car over a few times I noticed that the only injector which had diesel coming from the leak off pipe was number 2

Now, is this normal and is it that number 2 is at fault or is it the other 3. Would you expect to see leak off at all the injectors on attempting to start the car. Could it be that the injectors are simply blocked which is causing the car to not start; or the electrodes at the top of the injector have gone capput and are not switching on at all.

The car will start on damp start and has been running funny for a while (ie very lumpy when cold, but once warmed up its fine and will starts easily)

No engine code faults either with pp2000

Have you checked you fuel pipes to the engine. They give loads of trouble on this engine. The pipes rub on the bottom of the airbox and the one way valve in the primer bulb fails and lets the diesel back to the tank.

yep, all checked and no signs of leaks. The bulb will prime well and goes hard.

With no fault codes on the diagnostics, I'm thinking its an injector issue. As I said before, it starts and runs fine with damp start - its just something not quite right allowing it to start by itself.

If it was something major (such as a sensor gone or an injector totally gone) then I would expect it not to run at all. I wonder if my next port of call is to send the injectors to a diesel specialist to have them tested and cleaned. I phoned them before and they suggested that its sometimes the electrode at the top which breaks down over time - it wont work when cold but if they are warmed up a bit they will be fine.

Or is there a way I can test these at home......

Put a ohm meter across the two pins. You should get as far as I remember 200ohms or so.
