Hi guys

Seriously considering getting myself a Nextbase 412GW dash cam, but am just a bit worried about wiring it up.

I really don't want cables just dangling down the windscreen and dashboard to get in to the 12v socket so I would definitely want it hardwired in so that cables are nicely hidden up and so that it powers on/off with the ignition.

I have seen a detailed guide on here and even found a video on Youtube but am still a little worried on actually doing it myself as have little to no experience in doing these sorts of things.

And what's putting me off the most is the mess that is known to be the Peugeot fuse boxes, and how difficult it is to get to and actually see the fuses in their.

Basically what I'm looking for is advice as to whether it is quite easy and a lot less of a pain than it looks, or whether it's worth getting someone who knows what they're doing to do it (in which case, how do I find those people?).

Just get someone in who knows what they are doing. Very easy to do once you know which wire to tap though.

Any idea where to find that someone?
Would a shop like Halfords be any good at this sort of thing?
I know they fit car stereos so surely this is something they'd be trained up to do?

I suppose it's possible that Halfords could do this. It really would depend on the expertise of their employee. In your position I would seek out a company that specialises in fitting radios and amplifiers as they would be more likely to know where to pick up power feeds from.

Thanks, well I'll ask them at Halfords first then and see if they can actually do it.
If not I'll have a look around elsewhere locally.

Hi Just completed fitting my Dashcam today its a twin cam with seperate rear camera,used a hardwire kit off Ebay,would not say it's easy but not too difficult the fusebox is a bit fiddly i used long nose pliers for fuse removal/fitting and pry tools to remove trim,rear camera is tricky might need a longer bracket that's for another day.

Halfords will only fit dashcams that were bought off them. But I wouldn't trust Halfords... it all depends on the employee who is in. Best bet is go for a car audio installer, that will be the best bet (and I can bet do plenty of dashcams anyway!)

As said, look for Audio installers in your area. I bet there will also be mobile installer who can come to you to do it.

I've heard people not being overely impressed with them in the past, so to be honest was a bit hesitant about getting them to do this properly.

A mobile installer would be excellent if one exists around my local area, I'll have to have a hunt around. Thanks :)

My dash cam should be arriving today so I've decided I'm going to have a little play with it and also have a proper look actually at my fuse box, and see how it looks.
If it looks too daunting, then I'll take the advice about finding a mobile installer to do it.

Horrific. I suspect that little thought was given as to how difficult it would be to get to when the car was engineered to RHD.

I blew the fuse on the 12v centre console socket last month and I'm thankful that it was on the top layer of fuses as, although it wasn't easy to get to, I could at least do it. I really can't see how you can get to the second layer of fuses.

According to the 308 handbook, it says their are 2 "versions" of the fuse layouts - FULL and ECO.

Is the only way of finding out by looking at my fuse box? Or is it obvious to just 'know' which is which, if that makes any sense?

According to the guy in the Youtube guide video, it seems to be ideal to 'piggy back' off the 12 v accessory socket fuse. Which sounds right?

The only thing that confuses me slightly is there is apparently also one for a 'cigarette lighter', which I know my car doesn't actually have but I'd assume if it did it would most likely be in the 12 v socket any way, so why would their be seperate ones?

Yes you would think so,have you looked for the aux socket in the boot it's tucked away a bit mine is to the left of the parcel shelf on the plastic trim marked 12v.

I will have a more thorough look for it before I go ahead with this :D

The Nextbase hard wire kit arrived today, so now all I'm waiting for is my plastic 'pry tools' to arrive, as recommended in the video. Then I guess I shall give this all a go :looky:

On the estates, the lower spec versions (Active and below) just have a blanking plug. You need to go to the Allure before there's a rear 12v socket. Maybe that's the same for all versions?

Hi all,new here but made an account to point out you can use the glovebox light 12v, assuming you have one.
Its easier to get to than that fusebox! and switched with ignition.
Was an easy job fitting my nextbase 512, theres a panel at passenger door end of dash that pops off, it has some nice bolt heads for earth behind it, and gives easy acess to inside of dash.

My 308 does have a glove box light.
I'm possibly being dumb, but how would you use that to power the dash cam, using the Nextbase hard wire kit cables that I have got though?
