I am looking to wire in a USB cable to be used to power my SatNav without having to run a lead from the external socket across the dash.

My initial idea was to wire in another cigarette lighter internally to the wiring going to the current one but after a quick look it seems like it might be difficult to get to it?

Does anyone have any experience or ideas that they can offer to get me started?

i was looking at doing this, what i have gathered is that you need to split the current cigerette lighter current, dismantle the old plug for your sat nav and solder that in. as you need to get the 12v down to around 3 or 5 and the amps to match.

I was planning on wiring in another socket inside the dash and use a cigarette charger made for my device so I didn't have to worry about the voltage conversion.

Thing is, how do I get to to the rear of my 12v socket? Anyone done this before, looks like it might be difficult as (from memory) the plastic covering it runs half way up the centre console?
