2002 Partner, 1.9l, naturally asperated.
Vehicle has a hard time starting, only after considerable cranking time will it eventually start. It will start more quickly if I pump the manual lift pump many times before cranking. I have checked the glow plug circuit and all is good there.
If I park on a slight incline (front end up) the problem is worse. It seems as though fuel is slowly creeping down and away from the injector pump during the night. Once started, it re-starts perfectly throughout the day.
All advice welcome.

Thanks for the quick reply. I fear I may hate looking for this leak; Hard to know where to start, how many connections are there, finding the connections, etc. Is there a check valve somewhere at or before the injector pump? cheers

No there is no valve it could be a loose/cracked pipe fitting it could be the pipes on the pump it could even be the filter housing you could get a can of diesel and some pipe and use that as the tank for testing but its not an easy task to find it im afraid.

if its of any use heres a diagram of the pipes fitted to your partner...im assuming its the DW8 engine

although its really just a case of tracing them out, the hard part is finding the leak as it will be drawing air in rather than leaking fuel out..

You need to ‘ clear pipe it ‘ .......clear pipe section to fuel filter inlet , clear pipe from fuel filter to pump , and a section of clear pipe off the return which ever it may be off the fuel filter head or straight off the pump.

This is easier said than done as most pipe fittings are snap fitting type nowadays

We have specialist kit at work where you can ‘ break in ‘ between the lines .

You leave the car for a period of time then start it up ,by means of the clear pipe you see where the air bubbles form .

If there is no bubbles seen on the supply side but loads of air gobbing out of the return that can be pump seals or injector spill pipes .

If air is seen forming on feed to the filter the pipe from there back to tank is suspect , if after fuel filter pipe from filter head to pump suspect or filter head itself .

Obviously without this kit it is hard to do ....I would say a commonish on lots of different car makes is the spill pipes between the injectors

I also used to have a 2002 model.
Yes it could be a fuel pipe problem as described but don't forget to look at the obvious!
On mine we had the same starting problem in the morning with loads of cranking then after it would be fine for the rest of the day. It was an easy fix by replacing all four glow plugs. After that it would always start first time.

If its not the glow plugs then check or replace the fuel filter. If it hasn't been replaced during servicing then I assure you it can make the world of difference.
