Peugeot Boxer 2004 2.8 HDI.

Vehicle has discs/drums on the rear. Drum purely for handbrake. Having problems getting handbrake to hold. Have fitted new shoes, new drum/disc shoe spring kit, handbrake lever for shoes, new rear section handbrake cable, front section totally free and working perfect.

I have adjusted brakes by having handbrake cable totally slackened off, adjust shoes untill drums lock up click adjustors back untill drum binds very slightly, adjust handbrake cable. But after doing all that handbrake is very poor not holding. Looking for any suggestions to put this right. Probably missing the obvious. Regards.

why did you replace the shoes? they should last forever . what were they like ? a long time ago i changed handbrake shoes on a VOLVO because the shoe lining had come unglued and the new shoes didnt hold great.on closer inspection the drum had a ridge of rust that needed removing so the new shoes lay flat on the drum surface

Remove the drums and rough up the contact area with an angle grinder. Don't go too hard on it. This will work.
