There's no clip on the shaft.

To refill the gearbox you put the oil in through the breather hole on the top of the gearbox (has a plastic cap over it). There isn't a level plug so the only way of checking the oil level is to drain it, measure and refill.

But, if you can estimate how much oil you lost then you could just put in that amount.
