Hi All,

Wanted to share some observations i had regarding my gear shifts...

Switching to 2nd gear is very easy...u dont get gear shaft clicking noise feom 1st to 2nd at times which i get in other gears..if i push the gear stick to left hard and down i do get it......also shifting back to 1st gear is hard sometimes....

Are these issues or just my bad skills ...

Clutch was changed last year in the car....its a 1.4 16V petrol...fluid levels are all ok.

The gears should slide relatively easily into place - if the clutch is fully depressed, it should feel effortless to get the gears in.

The linkages can become sloppy (I really noticed this on a 307SW), so sometimes you have to "search" for the gear. If the synchro is worn, it may make it difficult to engage.

Every manual transmission car is hard to put it first when moving. As first gear is used mainly to pull off, if you are moving, second will suffice. A few cars won't let you into first until you are stationary.
Using any force on the gear stick is not necessary. If you are having to use force, there is either something wrong, or you do not quite yet have the art of gear changing perfected.
Gears should nicely snick into place, like an otter sliding off a rock into the sea.

Yeah...i think i was doing it wrongly....second now rocks in slot if i push it to left rather than left-down
