My car is a Peugeot 406 of 2000 year of made, but this problem i describe here, i am sure, is common to all Peugeot models, of this gear change lever, so everybody can do the same solution for it.
~ HERE STARTS THE PROBLEM AND SOLUTION ALSO ~
I had a "small" Gear Change Lever (part number 244994) with to much of excess play !!
Its a lever with a metallic small ball and a plastic large ball 41mm (Diameter).
You can remove the whole part, unscrewing one 13mm bolt.
This plastic 41mm ball, is responsible for the selection of gears and is worn by the use and not frequent "greasing" of it.
It is located below the starting of exhaust pipe and at front of steering mechanism.
Here is the photo of it (press on it to magnify): Gear Change Link-Umlenkung (part number 244994) with info

I asked at for a new part and official Peugeot told me... There is no more support for this spare part !!
Also none aftersales spare parts manufacturer constructs this very easy spare part. :nono:
So the only solution was and is, to modify it.
The most simple and effective way was to wrap it around with a very known and simple to find electrical insulation tape !! :thumb:
I have wrapped around it (very tight), several times until when inserted into the cavity place, was tight enough.
I have also apply much grease, into this cavity, where this part fits into !!
Thats it...!! No more excessive play of the gear selection lever. There is past 4 months of use, until now and is staying good !!
I WROTE IT JUST TO HELP SOME OTHERS WHO MIGHT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND THEY LIVE WITH IT.
BUT NOW THERE IS A SOLUTION FOR IT.
I HOPE MANY WILL BENEFIT FROM THIS INFO :thumb:
