Hi all, don't want to seem thick but I need advice. I have removed old fuel filter, ready for replacement in the morning when it gets light. The new filter doesn't have the heater part and pipe connection fitted to it. The one on the old filter seems to click on to the filter, and the connections are there on the new filter. Can you tell me how to remove the part off the old filter without damaging it?

And what is the interval of changing this filter? Mine is 40.000 km now and I guess it has never been changed.

Fuel Filter heater

Thanks Pugpete, I can see now how it slides out to the left, will be veeerry careful, thanks for help.

Hi puglover, mine is a 308 diesel which will not have similar fitments to a petrol engine. I bought a Haynes manual off e-bay for £12.99. Really good.
The recommendations for changing filter on diesel is every 20,000 miles but it may differ for a petrol engine. Sorry I can't be of much help.

There is no heater in the filter on this car, only a water sensor. Good luck priming it, best to use the simple trick rather than fannying about with the squeeze bulb.

Fuel filter

Thanks for that Chopper, there was a small piece that pushed into the housing. I carefully slid it out and pushed it into the new filter. I just presumed it was a heater. That's something else I know, thanks again.

Hi Zoony,

I have just updated my signature. I have 308 1.6 HDI 90 hp.
I want to change the fuel filter on my car but I have never done it before. Is it a DIY job? Do I need any special tool for that? Can you explain the important steps to me?

And chopper1192 says that it's best to use simple trick. What is simple trick?

Fuel filter

Hi Puglover, remove air ducts, it comes in two pieces. A 10mm pin holds the plastic plate at front bottom right as you look from the front. Slide this upwards with first piece of pipe. Second pipe is a push in fit into the top of air filter. First pull the pipe to the right as it is held on lug. Next remove turbo pipe from right hand side of turbo to maf sensor, take care not to snap plastic connector halfway along pipe. With these removed you will have access to fuel filter below where the pipes have been removed. On the left of filter there is a platic clip, lever it to left and slide the filter out upwards. Remove the two push on fuel pipes and sensor connector along with drain pipe at bottom. Pipes are simple push on type, push in the little square bit on connector to release pipe as you pull it off. Remove filter. The new one will probably have only one pipe connector, the other you have to slide off the old filter. It's on a square piece on side of filter, simply use a thin chisel or flat screwdriver and gently lever it away to the left. Push firmly into new filter making sure the two o rings are in place. Fit drain pipe and sensor into new filter then slide it down into holder. Push on both fuel pipes making sure they click in. I just pumped the plastic primer on mine until it went hard and it started first time. May be just fortunate, I don't know. If that doesn't work for some reason then ask on forum, Chopper will get back to you as he seems very knowledgable in these things. hope this helps.

I've hundreds of those filters fitted and the primer bulb has never failed to fill the filter. Just remove and refit the new filter and prime it up. No probs.
