Hi All,

Just a small point - is it possible to stop the folding mirrors from folding?

Bear with.... may sound daft request, but if I nip out to get my phone or something out the boot quickly, they unfold and then refold when I lock it. So that's double motor action for no real reason..
Presume the motors have been tested for x million operations etc etc, but just wondered... plus they squeak each time :lol::lol:

I think it's a dealer job, from what I remember from the manual, but that would probably leave them permanently unfolded.

It would be useful to have the switch so you can set it so that they wouldn't fold in when the car locks, I was able to do this on my previous Megane. Useful so if they are likely to be iced up, it avoids any issues when they do try and fold out.

Thanks for that..... good point about icing up.... one to check before unlocking...we live in a bit of a rural area so this is a good call, thanks :)

I seem to recall that if you fold them manually before leaving the car the they do not unfold when you unlock the car, but I could be wrong.

Thats what happens with mine (2018 GT-Line). If i fold them in manually they don't automatically fold back out unless i press the button.

They may automatically fold back out if i move off certainly. I've never tried to move away with them folded in.

Just been looking again at the manual - the folding/unfolding when the car locks/unlocks can only be changed by the dealer. However, it does say that the mirrors can be unfolded manually.

So, if you locked the car, let the mirrors fold in, and then unfolded them manually, would this then 'confuse' the car by trying to unfold them next time the car is unlocked? I'm not sure I'd want to try in case it does...!!

Our 308 doesn't have electrically folding mirrors but my 2013 C5 does so I'll have to go on my experience of those - they're probably the same.

My first impression was why on earth do they unfold when you unlock the car? It's a waste of battery power. Especially as my previous Mk1 2003 C5 had mirrors which folded when you locked the car and then unfolded when you turned the ignition on - exactly what you want. How a company can get something right and then deliberately make it worse is beyond me.

Anyway, enough of that I can feel a rant coming on.

You won't break anything if you manually override the motors. I don't have the C5 here at the moment but my feeling is that if you push the mirrors closed after unlocking the car then when you lock it they simply catch up and similarly for the other way round. What does cock things up is if the car enters eco mode and then you have to use the manual switch inside car once you've started the engine up. At least that's the way I remember it!

I clipped the nearside mirror the other day. It folded in. To fold out again I folded the driver mirror in then out again. It caught up.

To be honest, it doesn't bother me when they fold out as long as they do.

I find it a useful indication that you remembered to lock the car.

Mine have started to squeak also. I noticed this after I washed my car. Something I rarely do. Before that it was fine. So I suspect they need to be greased somewhere as there maybe a water trap.

Would the simplest thing not be to disconnect the motors? Just a thought...

Put the mirror adjust switch in the middle and pull it towards you. Do the same again to fold them out.

Dear All,

As Twingoman says, pull the switch to fold in. Then again to unfold and then they work as normal on the fob.
