Good day Gentlemen, thank you for accepting me in this forum. I am currently in RSA.

I purchased a 2013, 1.9D with 126'000km on. The head gasket was damaged, but I had some funds to repair, as I am in the trade, and needed a Panel Van. Three months later, I pre checked the vehicle for a road trip, and found a brown froth on the water surface of the water bottle. I immediately took the vehicle to my mechanic, and he said that he needed to flush the water system, due to something that may have been in the system after the engine repairs. This he did.
I went on a 600 km trip and blew a water pipe on 500 km. This pipe was behind the thermostat housing, and I have not been able to strip to repair.

My Question: Could it be that the thermostat gets stuck, which causes a pressure build up, and then a hose bursts, or is it just that the water hoses are deteriorating, and need to be replaced.
I would appreciate some input, as I do not want to sell off my Van, It serves it's purpose to well.

Kind Regards, Gerhard du Toit

Are you SURE its a 1.9 as that is an old engine and i doubt they still used it in 2013 !

The hoses can indeed burst it is just old if the thermostat was stuck the engine would get hot quickly.
