Peugeot 308cc 200HP EP6 Engine. Losing 500mls water after 200miles. Garage has located a slow water leak on right-hand side of engine under pressure. Garage thinks it maybe head gasket with 3 hours to investigate and £1500 to fix.

Any thoughts on diagnosis or how to confirm.

Why not invest in a ten pound (max) bottle of radiator leak fixer and see if that works? Get a good quality one from a motor factor. If the leak stops, ignore it. £1500 saved. If it doesn't try a different garage as a comparison.

I do not recommend radiator leak stop solutions. They will clog your radiator , heater matrix and maybe even the engine.
You need to locate the leak. If you can see where the leak is you will know what you need to change.
If the head gasket is blown the water ( antifreeze ) will go into the engine and mix with the oil. So if you take your oil dipstick and look at the level of the oil , should be over the maximum limit. Also might look withe and creamy.
And in the expansion tank you should see bubbles.
If you can see the leak is not the gasket , this will be my opinion.
So if you can show us a pic from where it leaks maybe we can help more.
Might be a hose , or thermostat gasket ... who knows. First find the leak. If you cannot find the leak then could be head gasket.

If the garage say they can see a leak ythen I don't see how it can be the head gasket, unless it's the very unusual situation of one of the water galleries leaking along the gasket to the outside.

When I say "the garage have located a leak" the dripping water can be seen when seen from below but not the source of the leak. The oil remains clean and expansion tank water also. The three hours to locate the leak means removing exhaust etc that is obscuring sight of the source. Might it be possible to access the area with an inspection camera? I have no idea how crowded it is in there. Would a main dealer have means that my local garage does not? Losing 500mls over 200 miles is irritating but manageable, no idea how much worse it will get and how quickly!

Sounds very expensive to me,even IF? It is head gasket.
Get a second opinion from a small Peugeot/Citroen specialist who is familiar with this engine.

It really doesn't sound like a head gasket to me.

Do you have one of those small inspection mirrors on a stalk? Sometimes you can see things with that which are normally hidden.
