hi all,
I've used this forum before when I had my 307 and got some sound advice from members about a fault that I had with it.
Since then the 307 has gone and I've now bought a 54 plate 407 2.0 hdi 136bhp
as you've guessed from the title I've got the dreaded esp fault.
This came on shortly after buying the car so ive looked at every thread that mentions esp faults, and decided to do a bit of investigating on the sensors themselves.
i changed the brake switch for a new one but this only caused the brake lights to stay on when peddle not pressed and go off when peddle pressed :confused:and still esp fault so changed it back to old switch, no brake light problems now, but still esp fault.:eek:
i thought id clean the sensors as suggested and went ahead and took off the drivers side front wheel, i noticed that the wiring from the sensor was taped up with black electricians tape:nono: i suspected that this sensor was giving me the fault so bought a new one and replaced it, now ive still got the esp fault and now an abs warning which i didnt have with the old sensor only an esp fault,
should i have cleaned around the sensor area prior to fitting or shouldnt this really matter.:confused:

abs and esp fault could be a sensor
just esp fault wont be a sensor on the wheel as that would also cause an abs fault
you now have an abs fault too so maybe its the wrong sensor fitted or a faulty new sensor, i know some people have had problems with sensors from ebay
it could be your angle sensor or level sensor at fault
your best bet is get it on planet or diagbox read fault codes and check live data as this is a good example of changing parts that are not faulty because it has not been diagnosed properly and you end up spending more money and time fixing it

Esp/asr faulty

Thanks for the reply "trustme" as someone pointed out there are no moving parts in these sensors so im lead to believe, so what could go wrong with a new one:confused:
the one that was on the car had wires spliced together so i thought that this was were the fault was.
im tempted to put the old one back on just to get rid of the abs fault but still have the esp fault flash up.:)
i was hoping to get kilvo (member on here) to put it on planet but work got in the way so hoping he will still do it in the next couple of weeks.
i still have the new brake switch do you think i should try that again to see if it helps or am i just wasting time.
i know i really need it on planet but im just trying all other options inbetween.

new sensors could have the wrong ohms resistance, the winding's could be faulty

the brake switch is not your fault

i would put the original sensor back on to see if the abs fault goes if it does then the new sensor is faulty

get it on planet first otherwise you are wasting ££££

thanks for clearing the sensor theory up "trustme":thumb:
since replying i have put the original back on and the ABS fault has gone but the ESP fault remains.:)
i will see if i can send the faulty sensor back to the seller and get a refund.
i will get the car on planet so im not going round in circles trying to solve this issue.:confused:

with out a doubt you can return the faulty part but its about if the seller plays fair or not but its covered under distance selling regulations and consumer rights act 2015

Ive been onto ebay and started a return request, as the seller advertises that the sensor has a 2 year guarantee i think ebay will go in my favour of a refund wether the seller plays fair or not.

esp fault.

ESP Fault now sorted thanks to "trustme" and his advice. it was the steering angle sensor that was not put on properly, probably when a previous owner had the car and replaced the com unit but never checked the sensor properly.
