Hi Guys

first post do forgive the straight in with the questions but ...

Partner Escapade 1.6 HDi 2006

About 10 months ago the car went in for a service and everything was fine. Then about 4 months ago we would get the odd whiff of burning oil and it would go. This gradually got worse and smelly. A search under the bonnet produced nothing of note but the smell was there. Oil was not going down so assumed that some oil was burning off on top of the engine from a careless oil replenish during the service. Then ...

A couple of days ago a pffff pffff pfff sound was coming out from under the bonnet. Sounded like a leak on the exhaust up near the engine. Again looking produced no results and after a run it would settle. So we knew that soon we would need to attend the garage as part of this years service and would bring it up then.

Today it wouldnt start. Battery has power. Lights all work as does central locking and everything but ... wont turn over. Assuming a starter motor failure attempted a bump start and all was well. Had to rush off to work and then get a jump start there till I could give it a decent run. That has now happened and car back at home and assumed it would all be ok but have smelt the oil and the noise has gotten worse. After looking under the engine cover found oil spitting from something. Not familiar with the smaller lumps and bumps under the engine we can see its spitting out of the bit enclosed in the photos highlighted with a red arrow. The one on the left is fine. The right one is the leaky one.

Now normally I would attack with an allan key and tighten this bit up but it has a small ... "screw" type thing in the middle of it and I do not want to cause more problems. Also I cant see how this would effect the engine turning over. But hee it is and here we are ... any help would be appreciated and thank you in advance.

1. What is the thing thats leaking
2. Can it be tightened up with an allan key safely
3. Would this cause the engine to not turn over but be ok after a jump start or bump start.

Edited to reflect which one is the leaky one. It's the right red arrow.

Number 3 injector is blowing past its seal. Tightening the allen key bolt can sometimes stop this for a while but the only long term fix is to remove the injector and fit a new seal.
However, this should not cause a non start. Looks like you have two separate problems there.
P.S On all Peugeots ( except some with rubbish BMW or Ford engines ) number one cylinder is always at the flywheel end. Oh and some vans which are Fiats. They can be either. Makes diagnosis really easy! :rolleyes:

lol thats brilliant Techal thank you. I dont mind playing with landy's but this was a oh erm hmmm moment. After a few hours rummaging on the net I came to the assumption that it was an injector issue but wasnt sure. So waitd for some confirmation. And here it is so again thank you. Off to the garage on Monday it is. I'll have to glide along.

Reading elsewhere on the net the non start issue is to do with the EMU realising there is an issue and cutting fuel. Not sure if thats legit but as its a garage story now they can look at the non start thing too.
