My wife has a 1.4 petrol 207 56reg with 34K miles and there is a very small oil leak from the front of the engine (driver's side near cambelt). I guess that this is the common fault with the gasket that we are familiar with. I have checked the cambelt and it looks clean and the rate of loss is very small. Given that she only drives about 4K miles a year is it worth getting it fixed? ie what happens if I do nothing? It's easy enough to clean the oil from the engine every so often.

Thanks

Huge common fault. The worse case scenario is the oil contaminates timing belt and it snaps after a while. The oil runs onto the alternator belt softening it also and that can snap. The choice is entirely up to you.

Thanks

Thanks for that feedback, I might just keep it clean with a tissue or two every week. However, is there any evidence that a head gasket failure is likely?

In the old days (eg morris marina, ford cortina etc) the advice was to tighten the headbolts down a bit more. Those were the days......
