Engine and UREA warning lights and messages

I have a 2016 Peugeot 5008 and today as I was returning home from a trip to the shops i'd say only 5mins into journey home I had the first warning bleep and engine warning light come on with a message on dashboard stating Engine fault Repair needed. Straight away after this I got second warning bleep and UREA warning light came on with a warning message on dashboard stating Emissions control fault.

Any ideas on what could be the problem, is it just that I need to possibly top-up with Adblue or could it be a mechanical problem and I need to take to garage?

Thanks

I found out the urea reservoir is only filled to half way at the factory, so the question is how many miles/kilometers have you done?

Press the "check" button beneath your speed dial and watch the display. It will check the level of Adblue and it will say something like "2700 KM to no start". If it says less than that you'll probably need to top up your Adblue.

I've pressed the check button and I get the message Emissions control additive range greater than 5000km so can I assume that the level of Adblue is ok.

The car has only done 21,530km in total but it was in for a service 8 months ago and has only done 1890km since then.
Take it to your dealer. I guess it's under warranty?

2008 1.5Diesel 2016 Emmisons Warning Light Urea AdBlue

So I'm writing this to provide other users of the scenario I have been in regarding my 2008 2016 diesel... Started of with the engine warning light coming on with the prompt saying there is an Emissions fault. Following this after around ten minutes of driving the Urea (Light came on) despite the tank being already half full. Following this after re-starting my car the engine light comes on and says you will no longer be able to drive the car after 700 miles...

So I have taken this to the dealer despite the car being having only 40K on the clock and 6 months out of warranty and have been told it's the knock sensor... The charged £114 pound to plug it in to tell me the knock sensor is faulty... The knock sensors are pretty expensive and they charge around another 1 hr labour to fir at £526... But I ended up being charged £700!!! because the centre section of the exhaust thread was damaged when they removed the knock sensor...

So guys please be prepared to be screwed by the Peugeot dealer for this work.... I did try and ask for goodwill but they said because I had bought the car out with Peugeot and had it serviced using a non-Peugeot garage they would not provide any goodwill. I hope this helps somebody... Very Very disappointing.

Hmm... knock sensor would have nothing to do with the urea system. Even if it did, the knock sensors are cheap. £22ish from pug and should be able to change out in less than half an hour. Can you post up exactly what the invoice said.... as something isn't right here and I smell a rat.
Hi, I will get the invoice later today and post this up. Thanks Andy
Hi, So it seems it's not a knock sensor but a NOX sensor. So this may be where the discrepancy is. Even still bloody expensive!!

P9821120980 NOX Sensor £250.42
P1614256180 EX PIPE £60
CLAMP AND SLEEVE EX £35

LABOUR
PLUG IN £95
REPAIR £95
TEST £42

£578 befor VAT
£694 to pay

OUCH

Those NOx sensors are expensive, they haven't overcharged on prices. Atleast I've found the problem with those..... it's made in Germany by Bosch  I thought £250 is scandalous for a sensor... then found out what a VW nox sensor costs..... £400  Even though the sensor is the same!

£280 for labour though.... It takes about 5 minutes to get the error codes, 5 minutes to research which parts to order. The fitting, it shouldn't take more than half an hour.

For such a new car, I wouldn't think the NOx sensor should be that stuck in place that you can't get it out. So they probably damaged the exhaust pipe due to their own inexperience and charged you for it.

Either way it broke, doesn't matter, the exhaust pipe is £120 incl clamps, the central exhaust isn't hard to replace either, my local mech charged me £20 to replace the DPF on a Peugeot 407 and that's more involving than a bloody nox sensor.

Then testing would be easy, turn the engine on... "oh look, engine light hasn't came back", let's take it for a 5 minute spin around the block...

In essence, they have overcharged on labour and diagnostics. I personally wouldn't go back there, the dealer doesn't take care of their customers. They must think you drove in there with a Bentley.

No issues since it was changed. I wouldnt go to a dealer as they are ridiculous too expensive. The only reason I took it there as I thought I had a claim since it was just out of warranty... Good luck

Hi there a read your post with interest as my citroen berlingo has just started performing up like yours did with urea warning light of 700 miles till starting prevention happens can I ask since you changed nox sensor has it reoccurred at all or has it been a complete success since sorted thanks in advance
Hi, Sorry to hear of your problem. Yes it was completely fixed after this was replaced and no issues since. Try and get some smaller garage to plug it in for you and if it throws up the code for the Nox sensor. Happy Days Eh

Thanks Andy.? your information is a great help I've priced sensor on ebay at £250 but will get smaller garage to sort it to avoid dealership rip offs looking online it does look a big job but apparently it's a common fault to be honest these dpf filters are just so much hassle.
Hi guys don't suppose anyone's warning lights have come on again? less than a month after being replaced?
Perfect timeing in the middle of all this not. ? I need my car.

thanks for sharing, i have exactly same problem of my Peugeot 5008 yesterday, I brought to the local garage. my Ad blue only topped up from last service which was around Jan 2020, so They told me need to change the Urea Fluid, and it will cost around 120 if tthat's a bottle type and 240 if that's a bag type, and that's will be done next Monday. is ADBlue and Urea Fluid are same thing? after see your post, I start questions if there is some faulty on the car.
Uread and AdBlue are the same, but what you described is not Urea. You require fluid for FAP filter which is used during regeneration and for that you need mechanic and diagnostic. Urea can be filled by the driver and diagnostic is not needed.

I had to put pat fluid into my car after reading scary stories it was nox sensor etc but get pat fluid put into your car apparently it only lasts 70k miles my car had done 110k before I needed it tbh. I had follow on problem after pat fluid was put in my car couldn't be regened until I had a fault on my fan sorted as ecu wouldn't let it happen all good now
