Hi Forum,

Looking for some help please. My Mother-in-Law's 64 plate 2008 has developed a fault where the EML light comes on and the car goes into limp mode. The fault is intermittent but seems to occur when the car is going up hills.

It's been into the dealers but all they've done is reset the ECU a couple of times, with no real explanation of the issue. Each time the reset is done, this clears the fault initially, but it then comes back.

On the latest service note from the dealer, the below text is present.
Seems like there's some pretty serious errors being reported from the test.

Has anyone got any experience of these errors? Can anyone offer any advice?

Note: The car has been in a bump...was hit in the side on a motorway with 3rd party hitting the car square on to the passenger side.

Text exactly as on service note:

CARRY OUT REPAIR - EML ON
Carried out Global Test, Check and found
Exterior temperature sensor fault, additional brak
lamp control fault, front right direction indicato
and right hand side repeater control fault, front
front right dipped headlamp control fault, accesso

positive relay control and status not coherant, el
authorisation outout fault, fault in the status of
fastening information for determining the presence
of the driver, tyre under inflation detection rese
fault, air conditioning circuit low pressure safe
fault, no communication with diesel additive pump,

engine management ECU multiplexed additive pump,
ABS ecu not recognised, air-bags and pre-tensioner
ECU not recognised, exterior temperature data faul
voltage retaining device ecu present but configure
absent, *** Advise service spanner light on, if le
longer orange warning triangle will display ***

it sounds like the car was not repaired properly, was the accident after you bought it or before, did you buy it from dealers, was the accident repaired at the dealers, did these faults appear before or after the accident

Hi,
Car was bought brand new, so accident was whilst owned.
It wasn't repaired through dealers, but the 'approved' repairers from the insurance company. The fault has only occurred after the accident, but not immediately after.

The accident was only minor damage to paintwork as far as we're aware.
Could this be a sensor thing throwing the whole system off track?

i would have said i want it repaired by dealers or i want another car as that way it would have been fully the dealers fault and still fully under warranty

I think the insurance company were quite strict with who could be used as a repairer.

So, all these messages/faults aren't some common problems with the 2008, but probably related to a poor repair job?
Shouldn't the dealer be able to trace the source of the fault though?

yes the dealer should be able to find the faults and if they are unable to i would either take it to another dealers or ask for the master tech to look at it
