Hi! Any advice gratefully received.
This may seem a bit long winded - bear with me...
About 2 weeks ago my car just died, mid journey. Emergency mechanic attempted to diagnose fault but found nothing with any certainty. It was towed to my local garage, where their mobile electrician diagnosed an ECU fault, with the immobiliser and recommended taking it to a main dealer. The dealer advised me to send off the ECU to 'ECU Testing LTD', (in Derby) in the interim period as they could not look at my car for 10 days anyway (he said they would do this first anyway).
ECU Testing sent it back to me with no fault found, so I took it to Peugeot dealer who has said:
“it is not retaining immobilizer (code)” and a new, programmed ECU is £1000, (bit of a problem here given the car's resale value) so I have recontacted ECU Testing and other ECU repair companies - They say I need someone with “main dealer-level diagnostics to recode a replacement ECU and others say I need my whole car present for it to worked on.

My questions are:
1) Has anyone else has this fault - (or why are Peugeot electronics so rubbish)?
2) Anybody know anyone who can do this without charging the same as a main dealer? (I am in Leeds).
3) Is it possible that there is another solution, such as removing the immobilizer altogether?

what you need to do is contact a member with planet for it to be diagnosed if you are sure that its the ecu then you could get a ecu bsi key set and fit it your self here is how you contact a member with planet http://www.peugeotforums.com/forums/introductions-28/brief-faq-guide-new-members-83170/

if you try start what happens?
if you try start then turn off the ignition leaving the key in and then open the drivers door does it beep to say you left the key in

also i can virginise ecu and bsi see here Car Key Problems

Thanks for your reply - I will let you know the beeps when I get it back from the garage tomorrow.

virginising works by programming the chip inside back to the factory state of a new bsi or ecu, this is sometimes done because the software becomes corrupt or to use a second hand part instead of purchasing a new one

You have written car wont start

Garage says ecu

Ecu test says NOT ecu

Dealer wants to sell you an ecu anyway !!

Nobody you have asked is correct as they are all guessing take it to someone who actually knows peugeots NOT PEUGEOT :)

I RECON its the well documented water ingress into wiring issue.
