I recently bought 51 plate lx and love the car but it is testing me now. Have a broken dipstick with the broken section being still in tube. Question is can the dipstick tube be removed as I cannot push the broken section down and I cannot get another dipstick to check oil level.

Many thanks for you help.

Many thanks for getting back to me. This is a helpful forum.

1.4 petrol. I have found one bolt holding the dipstick tube in and thought pulling tube out would have been a solution.

Just done an oil and filter change.

I have read on forums that some folk have had success sucking the broken bit out using a vacuum cleaner..?? Worth a try..?

My initial thought would be to try one of those telescopic magnets down the dipstick tube. Not sure if the dipstick is magnetic though.
Might be worth a try if you have got one.

A good thought but I have been told they are plastic. I have a local breakers who knows about this error and feels the majority are broken by people removing the dipstick whilst engine running. Why you would do that I cannot imagine.

Try unscrewing the tube.

You can get out broken dipsticks with an oil pump.

Soften the tube first then push into the dipstick tube.

Let it cool and it will grab the broken dipstick.
