Since I cannot get a proper photo of my own diagnostic port to see if this fault code reader will work with my car maybe this can help determine what I need.

Ok, so if my diagnostic port matches this port, then will this fault code reader be compatible with my 2002 307 1.4hdi

You need to count the pins in your port, and check them against a diagram on t'web to be sure, but I don't think they will as the older cars were straight ISO, but I could be wrong. Check which pins you have to be sure.

Just a bit dark for me to check now but will be checking tomorrow morning. What I am asking is if my port does correspond with this picture will the fault code reader in the link work ok.

The physical shape of the port is no indication of whether it will work.

That shape port is used on something like 8 different protocols, so checking the layout of your pins is the only way to be sure. If the layout of your pins corresponds to a protocol that this reader can handle, then it will.

good luck.

Don't think the U581 will read your 307...its usally works on 98+ on petrols and on +04 diesels....:)
your port is located at right of steering wheel at knee level beside drivers door under a plastic cover...it looks like the plugin in the middle link above
and is usally green in colour...:)
