In case anyone else has found the dead pedal to be uncomfortable it is possible to remove it. Actually I should say hack it out. It's a polystyrene block that has been glued in place behind the carpet in the footwell, once done the carpet can be pushed back on itself to leave more space.
I took a while with a Stanley knife to carve it out but it was definitely worth it, so much more comfortable.

I also find it uncomfortable, its too 'high' for me and I find I can't relax my leg properly. This may sound silly, but its the only thing I would change on the 508.

I'm a shorty too, so I can't imagine it being alltogether that great for the 6 footers+ out there.
