Hi everyone. First time posting here but always reading through new posts. My wife has a 2015 308 GT Line and when travelling in her car I can't believe how poor the DAB reception is compared to my OCTAVIA VRS. I've updated the firmware and maps to the latest versions offered in posts on this forum and wonder if that has affected the reception on the SMEG unit or is it simply not related?

On similar journey's in the same area tuned to the same DAB stations as the Octavia's DAB radio reception is poor, it's like having the radio off and eventually we revert to FM to break the silence.

Has anyone had similar experiences to this with their DAB reception in the new 308?

Thanks.

My reception is excellent, very rarely drops out, and us much much better than FM. Even in remote countryside.

Make sure the aerial is correct, there's two types, one for FM only, one for FM/DAB. Both have different price numbers.

Thanks guys, I'll speak to the dealer on Wednesday as its in for a servic and a couple of minor repairs and in meanwhile check that the correct aerial is fitted. I'll post an update if any success with the situation.

Thanks all for the replies and advice. I've not got anything like a dash cam or voltage converter etc plugged in so can't think of any interference caused by other electrical devices. I noticed that when it switches to FM and signal shows full strength, the radio gets a bit of static hissing which makes me think something is definitely faulty. I've checked the build spec of the car and checked which aerial should be fitted and it has the correct aerial. Over to the dealers...

Got the car back from dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong, said reception was patchy in area on DAB. So next step I'm going to replace the aerial with a stubby DAB aerial. See what happens but not expecting miracles.

If you are not getting good reception with the longer standard aerial then I don't think a 'stubby' will be any stronger....but at least it will look better...

I think the type I've fitted is better than many because of the extra spiral wound around and it's a little longer than many stubbies....but also more expensive. Hope it works for you....:thumb:

Thanks everyone for your advice and suggestions. I went and shelled out a massive £8 on a genuine Peugeot stubby 65mm long aerial on eBay, part number 6561N3 and after driving around various built up areas then into the countryside I have to say it seems the problem is fixed. Not only do I get good reception and strong signal on most stations, it didn't cut out once! I can only think the aerial previously on the car (which was the correct part) was knackered or the new stubby gives far better reception, either way I'm impressed!

So better reception and as an added bonus, it looks smarter on the car. ??

Hi, It's been over a year since you resolve your problem with the Dab radio reception this is still working okay? I've got 66 and I'm having the same problems and saw your post- I was wondering if still working?

Update
I have now resolve the Dab radio reception problem. as I have got to dash cams one of the front one at the rear the rear cam is interfering with the powersupply to the DAB aerial booster. so when DASH cam is powered up using the 12V socket in the boot DAB radio loses signal but when unplug-it it works.
so I have to find another 12V from somewhere..

On my ex 308 (from 2009) I've had my antenna stub stolen 4 times, after which I decided it was time to try the "shark fin" type, which is much harder to steal.
True enough, it hasn't been stolen since, but I noticed reception was weaker. It wasn't DAB, but nevertheless the signal strength was bad. I noticed that first while driving through a short tunnel, like 200-300 meters long: with long stub, driving 30km/h I would pass the tunnel without ever noticing anything on radio reception. If I was to stop inside then yes, signal would be lost. With short stub (shark fin) I would ALWAYS lose signal.

Just bought one of these, and it's a different thread size, 6mm not 5mm. It's also 85mm long, but that could be cut down.

Well, managed to cut a 5mm thread on the end so it screws in.

My problem was always loss of DAB signal when reversing. Cause unknown.

Original aerial was 28cm long. So with this 85cm aerial, dab works in reverse, so some improvement.

I then cut the aerial down to 66cm, which is a better match for DAB and FM (1/2 and 1/4 wave respectively) and for the first time ever I have seen all the rings black on the crude reception indicator on FM, and most on DAB.

So with engine off, but radio on, in DAB I select reverse gear, and DAB signal drops from 3 rings to just the centre dot, but now the reception doesn't drop out. Go back into neutral and get 3 rings again.

So what is affecting DAB reception?

The radio usually mutes in reverse so that you can hear the reversing sensor tones, could it be that?

No, I've turned the sensor warning off, and it only mutes when the tones are sounding anyway. This is muting, or at least losing signal with the car stationary and you can see the signal strength indicator drop as you select reverse gear. No problem with FM either, so clearly nothing to do with the sensors.
