I have an '04 407 HDi 1.6 diesel.

For a few miles I could feel a slight vibration through the clutch pedal and took this as a warning and was intending on getting it looked at but then without any further indications the pedal stuck to the floor as I was changing gear. I managed to limp the few hundred yards home by starting the car with it engaged in first gear.

Has anyone got any advice for me on this problem please?

Thanks.

Try lifting the pedal and see if the clutch then works but slowly engages then you could have faulty master or slave cylinder.

Tried that, Windy. I can lift the clutch with my hand but then there's little or no resistance when I depress.

clutch

I have just had the same thing happen to my 407 and it ended up needing a new dual mass flywheel and clutch so be prepared for a big bill.

Sounds like the bearing has collapsed and worn through the diaphragm springs on the pressure plate. Pressed the pedal, what's left of the bearing went through the springs and can't return. Nearly happened on mine but caught it in time.
