So, we have the little yellow LED that looks like an engine, on permanently again. And the 'depollution unit deactivated' (I can't remember the exact wording) error that displays for a few seconds when we start the 307.

We had the cat converter cleaned about three months ago. Is this a job that we can do on our own, as the car is starting to cost us a lot of money. If I buy one and try to fit it myself, what skills are necessary, and what tools?

Many thanks.

It bolts to the exhaust manifold, no specialist tools are required, I'd recommend getting hold of the haynes manual for details and instructions.

Before splashing out on a new cat, I'd suggest getting the car on Peugeot Planet or Diagbox for fault codes and live data. The depollution messages is a "catch-all" that Peugeot use to tell you something is wrong, without specifically pointing at a fault

Just checked some threads on Peugeot Planet. It looks good, but is the cable really eighty quid? Rip-off.

As an ex-307 owner, at £80 it's worth every penny

It's much more economical to spend on the right equipment rather than changing parts that may not need replacing.

As johnbrander said, find a member on the "planet map" and contact them to see if they can help you out.

To be honest you are ASSUMING the engine light is on for the same thing but it could be literally hundreds of things the depollution message is NOT telling you your cat is faulty

Try £1200 for a genuine one from peugeot then !!
