Hi everyone.
Recently removed old lower suspension arm, all was ok except ball joint but split it now. I have tried to refit a new arm, but I can't locate the ball joint into the hole in the hub carrier! Any suggestions?
Situation at the moment is suspension arm is loosely bolted on, the hub carrier is attached to the drive shaft and the steering rack, the discs and calipers are removed.
I can't lift a push back the hub carrier.

Would splitting the steering track rod make this easier?

i did this recently, that bottom ball joint is a real pain!

you may need to prise the slot in the hub carrier open with a large pry bar and i put a bit of grease on the ball joint and slot to ease it in. basically a lot of brute force and lining up the joint and slot. if you can, try and get a trolley jack underneath the control arm and push it up into the slot

It took me and a mate to get one in, I was stood on the end of a long bar while he tried to force the joint into the arm. Took ages.

Others have suggested to me in the past to remove the hub completely, fit the suspension arm to the ball joint, then hub to the driveshaft, then finally the track rod end

You need to remove the upper of the 2 strut bolts holding the strut to the hub and loosen the lower one this allows enough movement to get the balljoint in make sure the inner arm bush bolts are all started but loose as once balljoint is in it will strain them too much to get them in.

Its much easier with 2 people as everything moves around :)

Thats exactly what I did having tried serveral ways over the last few years. Luckily the guy next door came to see what I was swearing at and gave me a hand.:)

Thanks for the tips, I had considered undoing the top bolts, but thought the down pressure from the coil spring would make refitting those difficult, I will try again today, but have other things to do so can still cracking on.

I too tried many different ways and this was the best as i could do it myself if need be i went through a spell where i had to do one every week as i was looking after 10 taxis and everything used to break 1 after the other :)

1 bush has 3 bolts this is the hard one as the bolts i think you are talking about need to go through the bush holes then into anti roll bar bracket these NEED to be in before fitting the balljoint .

They can be left loose but must be started otherwise the arm gets pushed out of line by the hub.

Got it done, eventually split track rod and compressed coil springs, and between 2 of us and a long pole we jumped it back in.
