2013 2.0HDI with original engine has just been reconditioned. When you turn on ignition there is battery fault message on the dash. When you turn the key for engine start there is a tiny little click then fuse F8 (Starter Motor 25AMP) blows big style. New BSM (suspected water damage) & Starter Motor made no difference. Battery fully charged. No short detected on the starter motor wires so far.

Any advice greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Double check the starter solenoid cable (i have seen the ring earthing out if incorrectly fitted. If it's not that disconnect the skinny cable to the starter solenoid and see if the fuse blows. If the fuse blows I would then do a resistance check from fuse holder to solenoid cable if there is a short then the engine harness has been trapped during recon.

Another longshot on some models there is an earth ring near the starter that is fed from the same harness maybe swapped with solenoid wire
