Hi,

My car computer display shows "battery fault Charging" and begins to disable airbags, brakes, abs system and windows. I had to try and drive the car home from shopping until there was no power in the battery. It completely died. It had to be towed home.

In my experience and with some quick tests with multimeter, the common symptoms indicate defective generator.
I have switched the generator/alternator last week (the new generator is a used one from a scraper). But the error still shows up after 10 minutes of driving.

I have connected PP2000, which has given a fault code of 0480. When the car starts the battery measures 14v, but after a short 10 minute trip it went down to 11.6v and the car engine starts shaking a little.

I attached photos from pp2000 Diagnosis.
Is there anyone that has some ideas as to what I can do to fix the error?

Thanks in advance.:thumb:

Thanks for ur reply.
I did change the Battery to. Can the fan relay cause an intermittent fault? or cause voltage drop?

The fan fault indication is probably caused by the low voltage, not the other way around.

If you are confident about the battery, get a good alternator.

Sounds like a dodgy voltage regulator in the alternator, or a fault on the reference voltage connection to that regulator. Though the latter usually causes overcharging.

I would fit a new alternator. Don't bother with one from a breakers. They are not very expensive and you should then be able to dismiss that from the equation. The only other thing it could be is the battery, yet again, not very expensive.
At least with new parts you have some sort of guarentee.

Update

Hey guys.. update on my situation.
New alternator + new battery installed, but still the same problem "charging battery fault". The alternator give 14.2 v when I start the car but after 7 min drive ,the voltage drop to 11.2( There where the warning message shows up).
PP2000 shows the same fault reading as on my first post. could be a Maxi fuse? I have the wiring diagram from Haynes ( fuse MF7 at 30A). Is anything im over looking?:nono:

New alternator from supplier. The voltage im measuring from the battery with pp2000 and from the alternator with multimeter and both read the same voltage drop on battery and alternator reading. so alternator start with 14.2 and end with 11.2 after 5-7 min driving.
I notice that when the alternator is engage the battery measure the same output as the alternator ( and that with the drop too), but when I turne the car off the battery measure 12.6 V

First step is to check all earth points on the car. That includes the main chassis ones from the engine to chassis and gearbox. Remove and clean and ensure no corrosion and then replace and correct torque on the bolts. There are a few smaller ones around the engine compartment for lights etc and also check them too by removing, checking and replacing.

What can cause this? I m going crazy I inspected all the wires with help af auto mechanic , and still not finde the cause. Still show "battery fault charging".
Yesterday the ful gauge showed that it was gas in car even do it was running on empty. Could be the BSI Boks are not sending the right info out? High voltage?
Can I rest the BSI box with pp2000. sorry for all my question Im so , with this echo .
