Happy new year all!

I have a new battery to fit to my pug. The Haynes manual says that to disable the alarm system before disconnecting the old battery, I should turn the ignition on then press the alarm button for two seconds, after which the light will flash for 3 seconds. Well, when I press the alarm button for two seconds... nothing happens.

I don't really want my alarm going off as I change the battery - can anybody advise as to why Haynes instructions don't work? Can I proceed without this step?

Thanks

Happy New Year to you too...:thumb:

To be honest I haven't heard of the alarm disconnecting before - I've just unlocked my car - popped the bonnet - shut the doors and walked away for 5 mins. Come back and open the bonnet and disconnect the battery WITHOUT opening any doors.

When the new battery is on, wait 5 mins after reconnecting it before opening the doors/boot etc.

I only do this as its a French car with a sensitive BSI....:nono: and opening the doors 'wakes' the BSI a bit early.....

My car doesn't have an alarm though :D
