Before I shell out £70 on a new battery just wanted to ask the question.

Got in the car yesterday to come to work and car started no problem.

Got to work, parked up for 8 1/2 hours, then went to start it and would not start. Dash lights OK, just getting clicking, would not even turn the engine over.

Managed to jump start it and it ran fine, got home OK. Turned ignition off and then attempted to start it and it started no problem.

Car was stood overnight and went out this morning and car would not start, same thing. Jump started it OK and managed to get to work with no problems. Turned ignition off and then attempted to start it and it started no problem.

It just seems when the car has been stood it loses charge but when it has been jump started and run for a while it starts Ok.

Is this most likely due to the battery being old and not holding charge and could this be due to the hot weather? (it was 27 C the day it wouldn't start).

Could be a nacked battery, nacked alternator, nacked starter draining the current away to ground, or some electrical system drainging it (such as a boot light not switching off, etc).

Check battery negative terminal as well, mines a right pain for not getting a good tight lock on the terminal and i get this occasionally (mainly when its baking hot out - metal expanding??)

edit: go the whole hog and check positive terminal as well haha!

Run a wire to starter with a bulb this end so you can see when turning ignition there is power going to starter , if bulb lights up and starter doesn`t fire then its your starter.
