I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but I have had the automatic lights turn on when I've been driving in bright sunshine. I've then had to turn them off manually because they haven't always gone off automatically.

I have two possible reasons why it has happened:

1. I had to have a new rear view mirror fitted, and perhaps the dealer has adjusted something with the sensor.

2. On the days it has happened, I was in France with quite high temperatures, so wonder whether the heat had affected the sensor.

I have never been happy with the threshold values for the auto lights. I complained about it to the dealer when it was under warranty and was told that it wasn't adjustable. They tried cleaning contacts, with no effect of course, and I eventually ran out of time and warranty.

To me they always came on too easily in the evening when it was still far too bright - certainly comparing them to my Mk3 C5 which surely uses the same system. They are also vey slow to switch off after coming out of a tunnel. In late afternoon they hang on for ages, usually until I switch the auto off.

I suspect that the sensor would need changing and the dealer obviously would need Peugeot to acknowledge that there's a problem before they could do that.

I've always found my auto lights to be okay.

Mine come on generally when the sun is setting (which seems to be when a lot of other cars have them on), and they do come on when going through tunnels, but they switch themselves off very fast, when coming back outside.

It does sound like maybe the sensor could be faulty perhaps.

As the previous poster mentioned mine quite often come on if the sun is bright but low in the sky. Did the same on a previous Astra and while I find it a bit irritating I've always given them the benefit of the doubt and assumed it was to improve my visibility to others in these sort of conditions, even thoughts it's not actually dark.
