Hello Forum,

My Peugeot 206 XRS (Automatic, Petrol Engine), will give me a thumbing kick, on the dash board computer display will show the message, "AUTOMATIC GEAR FAULT", the engine starts to rev quite high, there is a loss of power, the 'Snow' and 'Sports Mode' lights start flashing alternatively. The computer display goes back to it's normal state (showing the time and radio station etc), but the symptoms persist until I stop the car, turn it off for a minute, restart it. It then goes without a problem.

Peugeot here in Australia, claim there is nothing wrong with it, their computer shows all systems are OK.

Good condition, ~54, 000 kms.

Can anyone please give me a clue on what I can do?????

Thanks and regards,
pu-got

Hi glad you got sorted. I have just had my 206 repaired but I was not so lucky. Unfortunately for me the previous owners had been at mine and I had to have it completely stripped and overhauled and new Transmission Torque Convertor fitted. which cost me £1600. Car is now like new but I am still recovering from the shock of the cost and the car has only covered 30K miles and worse I have only had it 3 months.

I would advise anyone with an automatic gearbox to have it checked as soon as it shows a fault by a gearbox specialist not Peugeot will cost around the same but they know their stuff and I was advised a gearbox service every 2 years costing in the region of £100 I will certainly be taking their advice.

But most importantly do not let anyone mess with them other than a specialist. They are costly to repair when they go wrong, better to find out early than late like mine.

Hi Pu-got, I've got exactly the same problem that you've described. Will it cause very serious danger if I dont fix it straight away? becos it's xmas soon and i doubt that i can be able to get it fixed...but i'll still needa drive the car :(
