I have a 09 peugeot 308 diesel. every so often the antipollution comes on and the engine just dies. This can happen when it is being driven which is a bit disconcerting. Would anyone in the Rochdale/Oldham area be able to do any diagnostic tests on it to indicate what the fault may be?
I have looked at other threads and it seems a common problem but no one clear answer to it, hence putting it on test I hope would give an indication to the fault.

Further to my anti-pollution problem
(1) Would my local Peugeot dealer have correct diagnostics equipment i.e PP
and do they print off a report of the results
(2) Would it help to publish the results here to get advice on the problem.
(3) If the faulty part is found and replaced would I then have to take back to Peugeot garage for any resets.
Thanks

Peugeot are the worst place to take a car for diagnostics they are a money making machine !!!

Find a knowledgeable independent garage they generally give better service than a main dealer

1 Thing i will say the antipollution message is NOT the cause its a symptom the ecu is seeing a fault and this causes the message AND the cutting of the engine as whatever the fault is is going out of safe limits and the ecu cuts the engine not the antipollution fault

Thanks for your reply. I understand that the anti-pollution message isn't the cause of the car dying and that is why I need a diagnosis done and as I don't know of any reliable garage that specialise in peugeot then I have no choice but to use a main dealer. What I am unsure about is will I get a definitive answer from Peugeot as to what the faulty part is. If you or someone else know of an independent garage in the Rochdale/Oldham area I would be most greatfull.
Thanks for taking time to reply

Hi Gibbo
I thank you for the links you posted, I didn't ignore them and found someone in the Oldham area which I pm'd Immediatley asking if he could help but I had no response. Hence my re-post asking for further assistance.
I realise the Dealerships will rip me off but I would be willing to pay it if it gave an answer to the problem part. That is the reason I was asking about how good their diagnostics are and would someone be able to help with pinpointing the fault from their report as I would'nt trust Peugeot to fix it first time around. What I don't want is to get into a cycle of changing part after part till I have spent more than the car is worth.
Thanks

A Peugeot dealer is just a fancy mechanics that's got some sort of approval from Peugeot to carry their branding and sell their cars.

Some dealers are better than others. Some will give you the diagnostics information... others just hand you the bill along with a quote. It all depends.

Best thing you can do, not just with Peugeot but ANY car, is buy the knock-off dealer tools, learn how to use it and save yourself a lot of cash and hassle.

When something goes wrong with my pug, I hook it up to my laptop, find out what part needs replacing, then simply get the part and head down to the mechanic. Must have saved thousands doing it this way, not to mention the time.

Thanks BiGK for the advice.
I have had a look on *bay and there is quite a few for sale for as little as £35 i.e

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FULL-Chip-Lexia-3-PP2000-for-Citroen-Peugeot-Diagnostic-tool-with-Diagbox-V-C8D3/202320969137?epid=14019720550&hash=item2f1b44fdb1:g:A~UAAOSwty5bBhRT&_sacat=0&_nkw=peugeot+planet+diagnostic&_from=R40&rt=nc&_trksid=m570.l1313

I am sure theses are a ripoff version but how good are they? how much would a genuine one be.
This car I am having trouble with is my wife's, I have a 20 year old Asta with minimum cumputer tech and an engine you can get your hands in, it might not be the most efficient car in the world but it doen't let me down.

ALL the planet/diagbox items available are what you describe as rip off but all work fine as they are all based on the same item.
