Hi, first of all ..... hello ..... my first post :)

We are looking to get a nearly new 3008 (can't quite afford a new one) and we fancy a diesel 1.6 Allure automatic.

We have test driven two auto's and a manual and are very tempted with the auto.

The two test drives we did had different feels to how the gear change took place. One was more of a 'manual' feel to it , the other felt far smoother.

At this point we do not know/understand any differences that might account for this. The gear/drive selectors where different, the smoother car had a park, neutral, drive ,reverse as well as the selector for manual / flipper changes.

The other one only had drive, neutral, reverse and the selector for manual / flipper changes.

if this helps..........

Can any please point me as to any information on this ?

Hi Ralphy

There are two types of 'auto' box.

The one with just Park, neutral, drive and reverse is a traditional, fully automatic box.

The one with the additional 'manual' option is a semi automatic gearbox. This is basically a manual gearbox, but with a computer controlled clutch & gear-change. You can run in 'auto' mode which changes gear for you, or in 'manual' mode which requires you to use the flappy paddles.

I currently run a 3008 1.6HDI manual having previously owned a Citroen fitted with a semi box (EGS). Whilst the flappy paddles were good for showing off to friends, I personally wasn't impressed with the Citroen's semi auto gearbox, especially when the drive bearing went with a ÂŁ2000 repair bill! I never really felt in full control of the car. I've no idea how the Peugeot versions compare for reliability but I'm so glad I went back to a full blown manual gearbox.

If I also remember correctly, the auto version of the 1.6HDI had a significantly higher VED cost, the manual version is only ÂŁ125

I've had my 3008 just over two weeks now and have really grown to like the car. I would go as far as to suggest, it's the best car I've ever owned!!

You won't go far wrong with a 3008.

Good Luck
Richard

Thanks ........ but ......

now I am starting to really get confused.......

both had a semi auto select as far as I know :-(

I have tried to upload 2 images auto 1 was the smother drive , auto 2 was the noticeable gear change.....

does that make any more sense ?

may be its just me ;-)

Picture 1 looks the same as my 308 6 speed 2.0 litre fully auto with the ÂŁ260 road fund licence, this also has the manual option with sport and snow mode, there are no flappy paddles. Picture 2 looks like the electronic box with flappy paddles and the ÂŁ30 road fund licence.

finally ...... :)

I worked out what had happened , with all the good help here :)

It seams that one of the dealers I had a test drive with was
talking twaddle!

He convinced me we had gone for a test drive in a 1.6 auto .... when in fact it was a 2.0 Doh!

In my defence I presumed that any dealer could not get some thing that simple wrong!

It has been a steep learning curve ..... the last new vehicle I bought was a BMW bike 30 + years ago !

So thanks again for all the help and not shooting me down for sounding thick!

Hi again ..........

We both really like the 3008 having looked at 10 / 15 different cars, before narrowing ot down.

Our first choice was the Dacia Duster but they are now having issues :-( The C3 Picaso , Berlingo came close ..... and yes I know they are nothing like the 3008 We had a list of things like ride hight, boot space , noise levels , better mpg , interior configuration (seats up/down) and more ............ We would probably walked passed the 3008 if some one had not made us look ..... we are so glad they did.

We are going to arrange some more test drives ..... now that we know what we are driving ;-)

The 1.6 manual / semi auto and the 2.0 auto will all be tried again before we make any final decision :)

Which ever we pick it will be in the Allure spec ......

as the wife is into star gazing and now claims the panoramic roof will be nice for when its cold :)

one last question if I may ...... does the 2.0 auto come in different BHP? I have seen two different prices on road tax ....... unless its just the dealers speaking / website twaddle ;-)
