Hi!

I am changing alternator on a 1007 1.4 from 2005. I got the new one in the mail yesterday but it was not the alternator that I had ordered, so my question is if I still can use the one that I got? The new one doesn't have the black bracket on the side (metal piece with plastic over it) and I wonder what it does, is it some kind of grounding? The new one has the correct connections but a big plastic cover on the side instead. Unfortunately I can't post links or pictures yet due to my post count.

Thanks for your help!

Best regards, Bobby

Check if its the same physical size and output, if so should be OK as long as the mountings are the same. Alternators earth through mountings to engine and then via strap on gearbox to frame. If the bearings are OK on the old one it might be worth checking the brushes as they are easy to change and will give the old one a new lease of life - at least that's what I did on the alternator on our 210K mile 807.
