Well ive gone out to the car again and its got a flat battery again. It did this 2 weeks ago and the RAC said it was the battery, which is under warrenty so i took it back to the shop, who among other things said they couldnt check the battery asit was only showing 11.5volts and needed to be charged overnight or a run with ALL electric's switched off for at least 500 miles:eek:(bullshit i know)
So ive left the car all week, went to start it and clik..

Checked the voltage on the battery and its showing 12.35 Volts, would that be enough for just a clik, and no start??

also ive been watching all week and the alarm lights are flashing alternatley

would that flatten a good battery or not??
or does it indicate a fault on the alarm, and if so what

Batteries on charge in the shed now so it 'should' be fully charged in the morning

I would of thought 12.35 was enough to start, mines currently 12.49v and cranks / starts perfectly.

My Alarm lights, like yours flash alternately, and as far as I know have always done this.

thanks phil, pleased yours flash like that i thought mine had always done this but you know what its like when you doubt yourself.

If its 12.35v could it be the amps thats down? and how do you check, any idea ??

Yep, mine will both flash at the same time to begin with, but if I then click to deadlock it, it sends the flashing out of sync.... watch them for long enough and you will see they gradually change the sync of them to become closer together or further apart...... sad I know, but I have looked in the past

I think mine was only 12.2v on PP the other day, and have no problems whatsoever.... touch wood :D

As for checking amps.... not really sure. Is it a sealed battery, or can you open the screw caps and see the level of the electrolyte??

charged overnight and was 13.7v
took it back to carshop who tested it yet again and said its a good battery. He later rang me and asked me to go to ATS to use there meter to check which i did (and found out it was his mate  ) And its a good battery, he did however give me a printout which says the start capacity is 65% i dont think that shows a good battery but hey what do i know.
So i came home and with my own meter on a warm engine IE: no glowplugs i got

12.79 whilst stood

9.77 whilst cranking

14.22 whilst engine running

your thoughts please

My lights flash the same and if I leave the car stood it goes flat within 2 weeks or 3 if I lock it using the lock (no alarm)

Battery is Exide and 6 months old

Voltages

12.7 stood

14.7 running

Those figures don't look too bad to me Trem, albeit I'm no expert :)

Checked mine this morning after your post, and its 12.5v when stood from overnight. The 14.2v you have when running is showing that your alternator is working OK then anyhow :thumb:

A battery should last weeks, even with the alarm activated.... I've left mine for a fortnight and had no problem whatsoever starting it when getting back.

Its starting to look like you have something that is intermittently draining the battery.... but not something that uses the economy mode function.

Betty's option sounds a good place to start.... but I'd lock with the key, and then at least its locked, just no alarm set.
