Hi guys there is a whining coming from the engines that goes up and down in pitch to match the revs. Originally thought it was the alternator but after taking the fan belt off and spinning all the pulleys it seems my air con pulley is the culprit. the whine is there all the time, when the ac is on or off. What do i need? is it the clutch, pulley? are they the same part? a desperate noob in need of help! A new pump is £250 i really don't have that right now.

Thankyou so much for reading Peugeot 307sp 1.6 16v petrol/automatic

Have you used a stick to listen to the pump?
It's a good way of listening to the noise from the bearings as long as you don't put it on something moving and push it through your brain!
If it does it all the time it's most likely clutch but I don't think it can be separated.
Have a listen round, I had the same thing and it was the idler rather than the pump. Slightly more reasonable.
A garden cane is good but a stethoscope is the best.
Good luck
