Hello,

I am looking to purchase Peugeot 3008 e-HDi model 2012 with around 140000km on it.

I was told to check if mileage is real by opening oil filling cap when the engine is running. If there are no excessive air blowing and oil spitting, the mileage is probably real.

However, when I opened the cap I noticed considerable air blowing and oil spitting. Seller, however, guaranties for mileage with service book and the fact that vehicle is bought from leasing company. He also told me that oil spitting is normal for these new motors, because they use some high pressure oil pumps?

Otherwise, car is very responsive and dynamic and except for this, I don’t have any other concerns.

Any comments?

I also think that is the case. But, I have a little doubt.

I was driving 2007 Peugeot 206 Hdi for ten years. Bought it new. Sold it with 100k km. Didn't have any signs of excessive air blowing and no oil spitting.

However, I am not sure how this 1.6 e-HDi is built. Maybe oil cap is situated much closer to mechanical parts so this blowing has to be more visible.

Also, I have read somewhere that in the persue of reducing fuel consumption in newer engines manufacturers try to loosen piston rings and other mechanical parts in an effort to alleviate friction. Could that also be a possible reason for this blowing?

If its a HDI it will also have a slightly pressurised crankcase due to turbo so you will feel air blowing from filler

Would any owner of 3008 with around 140k km be willing to post a clip of oil filler cap off when motor running?

That would be really helpful since picture substitutes thousand words :)

Thnx!
