"Airbag light, can anyone give me any help???
Bought a 307 cc 2004 model pre facelift 1997cc petrol as it was very cheap no signs of any crash damage and very tidy, however on starting the car the airbag light will come on and then go out. Most time after a few seconds the airbag light will come back on. If the airbag light remains off and the steering wheel is not touched engine running the airbag light can also stay off, normally if the wheel is turned the light will come on. I also hear 3 bleeps on turning the key to position 2 and a further 3 bleeps on starting the car up. I have read a few things about the comms unit and is there any easy test for the comms unit or the under seat wiring."

Ran a 'snap on' diagnostic check and it stated it was an open circuit. Cleared the fault and let the car run. I turned the steering wheel and the airbag light activated and subsequently showed an open circuit. It would appear to me comms 2000 unit and I am looking to purchase replacement from srcapyard. How easy is it to replace the comms 2000 unit, is there a step by step guide?? My car also has a rd3 radio does this have a code? As I cant find one. Finally do I need to do the full BSI shut down start up procedure on a 307 cc on a 04 plate????

What does the open circuit refer to? It does sound like comm but replacing parts without knowing for sure could get costly. Might be worth seeing if there is a member near you with planet that can do a more detailed test.

Whenever disconnecting the battery, Yes, you should follow the BSI shut down and re-boot just to be safe to protect against corrupting the BSI.

Regards the radio, they are coded using the vin number so as long as it works now it should be ok once you disconnect the battery.

The specific fault was the airbag light illuminated, the fault was removed and it said open circuit, however can’t remember the exact fault reading. Subsequently the fault was removed and the car left to run whilst sitting and moving in the driver’s seat no airbag light illuminated. The moment the wheel was turned to the right the airbag light came on. I think this would indicate comms pack. Is this difficult to fit, thank god no problems with radio cheers Roky.

Clearly I'm thick as mince, can't recall the fault code, however got a comm 2000 unit and going to give it a go at changing it. I have looked on youtube and there is a video by blogsf89 whereby he removed the airbag to gain access to the steering wheel without removing the battery. Can the comms 2000 unit be removed from the car and replaced whilst the battery still connected????

Does sound like com unit at fault moving the steering is breaking the circuit to the airbag the clockspring is stuffed most likely.

You can remove the bag and com unit with the battery connected but i would just disconect it as your radio is vin coded to the car so no codes to reenter its all done in the bsi automatically on reboot.

Check for the correct procedure or you may loose your key codes :)

One last thing to check once I have shut the car down BSI style and removed the battery, I am able to open and close doors at will as no additional power source within an ecu will keep it alive and monitor the doors opening. Or heaven forbid I am jumping through the open window the car Dukes of Hazard style, as gentlemen of a certain age should refrain from that sort of behaviour.

If the airbag has been removed and the clockspring has turned and not been put back in the correct position the this can cause the fault iirc. The clockspring should have the exact number of turns to the left and to the right if the wheel is centered. Easiest thing is to wind the clockspring fully one way count how many turns to take it fully the other way (never force this) then count back exactly half way and refit. Try that before replacing anything as it may be a simple fix. Clocksprings are fragile.

I have been told there are no stupid questions so here goes. If I remove the battery on a BSI to remove the steering wheel would the power steering stop the wheel from turning therefore making it impossible to go from lock to lock for the clock spring? Also I am guessing I will see the clock spring is it behind the steering wheel and is it easy to locate and reposition???

Changed the comms 2000 unit and now airbag warning light, however did a BSI shut down. On waking the car it now displays an esp / asr fault.
Any ideas much appreciated

Hi Guys

Thanks for the replies, all i did was swop like for like doing the simple BSI shut down and power up. How do I decalibrated then recalibrated???

If someone could pm me with a telephone number and I could pick your brains that would be great. But off to work now for back shift have a go at it tomorrow.
