Hi, I really need some advice....
peugeot 307 sw se 2ltr hdi 2003 53 plate.
I was planning on getting my front discs pads and sensors replaced tomorrow. Now I'm not so sure if its front or back that need done.
The ABS and ESP lights have been coming after 100 yards on for a while. I ignored this as I thought it was just a faulty comm unit but realise now I was being an idiot. I got diagnostics test and it showed abs fault but did not state which one.
Last week prior to test those 2 lights were accompanied by the STOP light and handbrake light coming on.Today this was accompanied with the parking brake automatically activating itself whilst driving.
I wasnt actually using car today just testing it to clarify whats happening.
Has anyone experienced this? Do these symptoms point to anything specific ?

Get the airgap between the sensor and the wheelbearing pickup checked. Its a common problem in the uk that corrosion builds up behind the sensor upsetting its preset airgap.
Try and get the code from it again and post it up.

Thanks for getting back to me !
Is it common for the handbrake to activate itself whilst in motion ?
If so would it do this for a rear sensor fault as well as front ?
Ill get code tomorrow but the repair guy is picking up set of front discs/sensors on his way here tomorrow morning. This is why Im hoping someone could clarify this evening.

No, I'd reckon its not the handbrake, its the ESP braking whichever wheel the problem lies at.
You could also have a caliper problem. Get the calipers slides looked at also.

When the brake was on the noise seemed to be coming from rear passenger side. Do you reckon its most likely that one ?

Sounds like it. After a drive, is the centre of the wheel warmer than the other sides wheel?
Also as i said check the airgap between the sensor and the magnetic pickup ring on the bearing.

Ongoing abs fault ...driving me nuts

Hi, This ABS fault is still to be resolved and its took another twist. I have so far replaced all back and front brakes discs and pads. I have also replaced 3 out of the 4 ABS wire sensors. I have wire brushed all the wheel hubs and sensor areas. Despite all this the ABS and ESP lights come on as soon as I start the car. I have had an AA guy plug in his diagnostic machine but it cannot register or pick up any signals from my car. Its not compatable or something. I got a mobile mechanic diagnostic guy out and he basically fed me some lies ,ripped me off and disappeared.(I still cant believe I got sucked in) What is happening now though is that whenever I brake I can hear a faint tapping noise coming from passenger side dash which starts and stops exactly in line with braking. The weird thing is, it only taps when moving forwards. If I reverse the car and brake,it doesnt make any noise.
Has anyone got any idea what could possibly be going on ?
Does it need a specialised peugeot diagnostic machine ?

Hi
I had the same problem abs light, handbrake and the stop lights on, I had it tested and there was no signal coming from the front left sensor (due to broken wire in the sensor cable) and rear right sensor so after replacing the left sensor and adjusting the air gap on the right sensor all lights are now out :)

on the rear there is flaking rust under the sensor which due to the position of bolt on the sensor unit makes the sensor act like a pivot increasing the air gap thus telling the test equipment that the sensor is faulty, there is loads on this site and others telling you to use a thin washer to fix this problem but I found that a metal shim works better by replacing the metal which has rusted. these are my experiences with the sensors on a 307...
