Hi

I have recently bought a 2019 508 1.6 petrol/hybrid its done around 55k miles, but it may have a few problems. It is going into the garage on the 15/04/25 but just wanted to know if some of it was normal or not. I have not driven a hybrid/automatic before so some of it maybe normal.

  1. The rear of the car divers side the suspension is noisy, it squeaks and knocks, abit hard to explain but the I know the noise should bit be there.
  2. Sometimes when pulling away and the car goes up the first gear you can hear like a slip, like if you sharply breath in. (only way I can describe it)
  3. When starting the car or sometimes a few minutes down the road the engine gets really noisy, only for about 30-45 secs but it is loud then goes off.
  4. When you programme the car to heat up at a certain time, is the car supposed to be noisy, like a electric generator i was in bed the other night and I could here the car.
  5. When the battery is fully is charged it does say the range is 16m, I thought it would have been longer?
  6. The brake pedal is also squeaky when pressed – not all the time.
  7. Sometimes the car feels like it’s an effort to go through the gears or slow to? in comfort and hybrid mode you can hear the engine struggle like it is going to the top of the revs before changing gear.
  8. When applying the parking break the car will also jolt and jerk abit as well -only sometimes

I have spoken to the dealer as well so that’s not a issue. I know the suspension and the brake pedal is not normal but the other points is that just the nature of the car? Anyone have any ideas about the suspension and the brake pedal, also (sorry) when its in the garage should I be asking the mechanic to look at anything else that my become an issues?

Thanks in advance I know its a lot of questions

The only issue that could be labelled as something ‘like normal’ is number 5, the charge range. This range is dependent on so many variables such as ambient temperature, past driving styles and battery state of health. The charge range is based upon the last 5 journeys I’m told and if you stay with the car, and due to the other issues I’m not sure that I would, you have to understand how hybrids work. Driving carefully, in B mode when applicable, and not in Sport mode let the car decide whether it stays in electric mode or hybrid mode and let the battery get to 0. Keep recharging and the range will eventually increase. If you can complete your return journey in electric mode then leave it there. If you cannot then put it in hybrid mode and use the satnav let the car know how long your journey is. This way the car will use a mixture of petrol and battery driving to eke out the battery until depleted. It is surprisingly efficient and the resulting mpg in the trip meter will show you.

There are some issues, and at so low mileage...
For 3rd point, it is normal, at engine start goes first with a rich fuel mixture around 60 seconds, because is trying to warm up faster the catalyst. A cold catalyst cannot do its job,is just a exhaust choke.
for first point there's such a complicated rear suspension assembly, any bushing going bad would create unwanted noises. Mine is squeaking sometime - most of the time when trunk empty and no passengers on the rear seats. 508 GT, 225 HP, year 2018.
Squeaky or squishy brake pedal? It's a hybrid, when breaking first kicks off regen breaks then the mechanic one, if you go further down the line. I also have a 2021 Corolla Hybrid sedan, and I know the feeling, though Toyota did a brilliant job hiding this transition. I am able to spot it only sometimes, not all the time.
Hybrid gearbox is vastly different than mine, an Aisin EAT8. It may be software glitches, fail to switch to electric, either electric help is late on the table, I have no idea. All those can be investigated thoroughly.

Hi all,

So I have had the report back - for the suspension the trailing arm needs replacing which should of failed the MOT that was done two days before I bought the car. Would this of likely to be shown as an advisory if worn or is it just coincidence that's its failed since Ive had the car.

Also they put the car on a diagnostic machine and it threw up 41 codes, are any of these codes something I should be worried about. Some make sense, for example the heated seats don't seem to always come or get as hot as other times, I just thought it would be condition based.

What do you guys think?

Agree with nfrances, a weak 12v battery may be at fault and also seems that a ground connector may come loose somewhere. Most of them are intermittent, meaning they were recorded once, when someone serviced the car and had to disconnect various cables. I do have one intermittent, though not present on the dashboard, when i have inspected all connections under the driver seat and disconnected side airbag. Did not bother to delete it, I know for sure it is my fault.
Electric power trunk, driver door module, all seems to be caused by a weak battery. Mine once refused to raise back the glass after door closure, staying about 1/2 inch lower. That convinced me to book next day a battery replacement

It taken a while…

the garage I have bought th car from are now accepting the car back after it is uneconomical to repair.

it went into Peugeot in the end, they explained there is something wrong with the aux battery and to download all the codes it’s a 4 hour job with a cost of £1000. The garage did not want to do that.

The codes they printed out just looking was U2FFF and P17EF plus the lane assist camera has failed.

I have no doubt it will end up on the fire court again

Not sure to be honest….

I bought the car for £12.5k. Peugeot wanted £1000 to diagnose the codes. They said only a Peugeot garage could do it. Peugeot said it could cost up to £6k to put the car right.

Included in the 6k was also a price to fix the lane departure camera as that has failed as well.

I didn’t buy the car from a dealer just an independent garage.
The sinic in me says they will just have the car back and put it through the auctions then it’s someone else’s problem rather than try and fix it
