Hi,

I am a new peugeot owner, a rather tired 504 convertible.

Lots of rot in the floor pan, sound subframes as expected.

Before I start having bits fabricated, can anyone who has been through this advise what panels/floor pan parts are available to buy pre fabricated?

And has anyone taken a convertible body off without any problems - if so, how have they strengthened it before removal??

Being the 11th owners I am going to put some love back into this poor car which should be stunning but isnt at the moment!

I would be very grateful for any pointers or suggestions.....

Body panels for these were never easily available !

There are a few specialists in 504 coupe and cabriolets out there but i doubt there are floorpans on the shelf anywhere due to the rarity of the cars there were not a lot made in the first place.

Good luck in your search they are wonderful cars

As reliable406 said 504 cabriolet/coupe body panels are very rare. You may find a firm in France making wings, door skins, that sort of thing, but you wont find anything else.Mechanical parts,no problem as they are the same as saloon`s.
I helped a mate of mine restore a cabriolet and it was a bare body shell nightmare. An old school body man fabricated everything, inner wings, floor panels etc etc.Its the only way with these cars, bare shell and do it properly.
Do you know these guys for parts ?

Bodywork on 504 cab

Thank you for the replies.

I saw photos of the car you worked on when searched the internet. If mine looks half as good as that in five years I will be happy!

Did you put any temporary strengthening bars into the cabin to keep the shape when you were stripping it down?

We did not fit any strengthening bars, just support the shell with various wooden beams on stands.
Then remove everything from the shell, including the dash, interior and hood. Its important you get to a bare shell as I`m sure the more you remove the more rust you will find.
It took us about four years, and I have to admit there was a time when I thought it would never get on four wheels.
You will need patients, lots of time and lots more £0000`s ? but I`m sure it will be worth it.Properly refurbished 504 cabriolets are fetching silly money these days so your hard work will be an investment.
I was so pleased for my mate that his finished 504 won an award at the Club Peugeot UK annual rally.
Have you joined yet? Club Peugeot UK
See you there in five years time?

Thanks for the encouragement!

I am stripping it down as we speak and as you correctly say discovering more interesting bits!

I just keep reminding myself that initially it was made in a factory from steel and panels so all things are possible.

I havent joined yet, but will do so now.

David, Are you are anywhere near Peterborough on Sunday September 25th ?
Go to Elton Hall for the annual Club Peugeot UK Rally. There may be some 504 cabriolet/coupe owners there showing off their cars.Definitely plenty of other Peugeot`s and enthusiasts, for some tips, advice etc.
Unfortunately I will be abroad on holiday.
