hello

I dunno if this is the same problem as the heater flap problem, my 1.6 hdi only blows lukewarm air out off all the vents, the pipes under the passanger footwell are boiling hot but why is this hot air not getting into cabin. the direction of air etc can be changed but even at max its still lukewarm.

is this the flap issue

its a dual system

Think I would first check if the motors that move the flaps are moving when you adjust the temp from cold/hot. While the motors are off I would move the flaps manually to see if you can get hot air coming out.

The vent on top of the dash can be removed to get a view of the flaps.

I have experienced with previous cars that even though the pipes are hot the heat exchanger may be partially blocked and although water is circulating it is not getting the heat exchanger as hot as it should be.

You had anything done to cooling system?

Have you checked cabin filter? they are known to get blocked on 407 and restrict airflow.

done nothing to the system

oh even tho the pipes are boiling hot could the cabin filter stop the hot air, the air speed is fine just cold

one thing I did notice is that the air intake pipe ujder the bonnet is loose but I dont see how this would affect temperature

could he thermostst have a say in this

sorry are these the motors hat you remove in the footwells

also can you flush out the heat exchange system

Yes the motors are the ones accessed from the footwells.

If you are getting plenty of air then I would say one of two things, either the air has not been directed through the heat exchanger or the heat exchanger is not hot enough.

Easy first check is take off motors and move flaps manually.

You could flush the heat exchanger, I have done them in situ before on other cars you need to connect some hoses to the heat exchanger pipes somewhere. I then filled a bucket with descaler(well some mega strong acid I acquired, but descaler is worth trying), I then used a small pump to suck the descaler out of the bucket through heat exchanger and back to bucket, leave it running for a couple of hours, reverse pipes etc. then flush with clean water and reconnect to car.

Another possibility is you might have an air lock in the heat exchanger, I had a diesel escort a few years back which was mainly used by my ex girlfriend who constantly complained about the heater not being very good. I spent a whole weekend messing around with it and after running out of ideas, I filled the header tank to overflowing, replaced the cap and drove it in 2nd gear with throttle to the floor for a few miles. As if by magic the heater was fixed and the water level had gone down considerably. It must of had an air lock somewhere. Refilled the header tank to correct level and it was fine from then on.

barr's leak sealer or similar can be responsible for just this sort of outcome ...
ie fix the leak +block the heater matrix....! GREAT:eek:
